Vladimir N. Alyokhin is a prominent scientist in the field of structural calculations and automated design optimization of civil engineering projects, as well as in the fields of research of thermal performance of walling and shaped composite bearing structures. Advisor at the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Honorary graduate of the Ural State Technical University, Member of the Administrative Board of the "European civil engineering education and retraining” (EUCEET) international association, Honorary Civil Engineer of Russia, Honorary worker of higher professional education of the Russian Federation. He is a member of the Council of the Governor of Sverdlovsk Region, and of the Technical Advisory Group on implementing the priority national project “Affordable and comfortable housing for the citizens of Russia” at the Ministry of construction and infrastructure development of the Sverdlovsk Region .
He has authored over 250 research and guidance papers, 3 monographs, and 13 inventor’s certificates. He is a member of editorial boards of several scientific magazines, both in Russia and abroad, and has authored the chapter aimed at the CIS countries in the International Reference Book of Earthquake Engineering, published in the United States (1994). He did numerous apprenticeship stints at universities and architecture and civil engineering companies in the US, UK, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and China. He is constantly involved as a leader and as a participant in implementing international programs under civil engineering grants of the EU in the field of construction.
V.N. Alyokhin is the founder (1992) and irreplaceable head of the Department of CAD Systems for Civil Engineering of the Ural State Technical University. Since April 2005 he also became the Dean and Director of the Institute of Civil Engineering of the Ural Federal University.
Since 1990 V.N. Alyokhin heads the "Techcon" engineering and surveying company. More than 500 residential, public, industrial and religious facilities in the city of Ekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk Region were engineered and surveyed under his guidance and with his direct participation as the Chief Engineer and the Chief Designer of projects. Among these were the Disaster Medicine and Emergency Situations Center of the Sverdlovsk Region, the Iset Tower multi-purpose business complex with residential apartments and underground parking lots, the Dormition Church - a cultural heritage site of regional importance, and other facilities. He headed geotechnical monitoring, thermal, static and dynamic analyses, including the progressive destruction analysis for a number of unique or high-rise facilities in Ekaterinburg, such as the Iset Tower, the Demidov mixed-use complex, residential buildings on the Mashinnaya Street, Radisson’s Park Inn Ekaterinburg, tunnels of the Ekaterinburg subway system, and did the structural analysis of the railroad track for the transport tunnel under the English Channel.
